Disaster Preparedness for Artists File your claim

You should start your insurance claim process as soon as you can, even if you don’t have a full account of the damage yet. It’s perfectly acceptable to add to a claim as time goes on.

When you contact your insurance company, have your policy number handy, if possible, and always keep them updated on how you can be reached. If your cell phone or email address isn’t working temporarily, have an alternative way that they can contact you.

Don’t let the progress of the claim deter your clean-up process. Document the damage for your insurance company, but don’t feel as though you have to leave things a mess for when your adjuster comes to visit. Take photographs, keep swatches of damaged items for proof, and throw out what you need to.

What if I disagree with the insurance company’s decision? It happens! Appealing your claim

That’s it, I know everything that I need to know! Get me out of here! Congratulations!
